Genre Writing (Certificate)

The Certificate in Genre Writing encourages students of creative writing to focus on practicing a type of popular fiction and to explore the history, theory and literary marketplace for stories and novels in popular genres.  It is considered a foundational preparation for continued study in the Master of Fine Arts program in Writing Popular Fiction, but also is a good course for students who want to explore a career related to genre writing (e.g., editing, agenting, writing, publishing, screenwriting, etc.).

Genre Writing Certificate students will interact with published genre authors who teach in the MFA in Writing Popular Fiction program and experienced English faculty. Their learning culminates in an exclusive opportunity to workshop fiction with a special guest writer of renown, during a graduate residency in Writing Popular Fiction.

Admission to the Genre Writing Certificate is open to all enrolled students who are seeking a bachelor's degree at Seton Hill University.
