Seton Hill University Earns National Recognition as College of Distinction

By demonstrating continued dedication to High-Impact Educational Practices, Seton Hill University has been named as one of the nation’s Colleges of Distinction.

Seton Hill has created a distinctive learning environment where students not only earn college credit and valuable life experience, but also participate in character-building service learning programs, community-based learning opportunities, diversity and global learning programs, undergraduate research, capstone projects, study abroad programs, internships, and mobile technology initiatives.

“Seton Hill University is pleased to be named a College of Distinction for its innovative approaches to teaching and learning that are grounded in both career preparation and the liberal arts,” said Seton Hill President Mary C. Finger, Ed.D. “As Seton Hill celebrates its Centennial in 2018, we continue to look for new ways to educate our students in the best traditions of the University’s founders, the Sisters of Charity, and ensure our graduates are, in the words of Elizabeth Ann Seton, ‘fit for that world in which they are destined to live.’”

“Through Seton Hill’s Office of Academic Innovation and Planning, faculty are rapidly developing new academic programs and partnerships in areas such as Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Global Studies and an MBA in Healthcare Administration, that both meet the needs of Seton Hill students and employers who are seeking a highly-skilled workforce,” said Seton Hill Provost Susan Yochum, SC, Ph.D. “Seton Hill’s recognition as a College of Distinction illustrates the university’s commitment to ensure our students are provided with abundant opportunities to learn, grow and find success after graduation.”

“We are honored to name Seton Hill University as a College of Distinction for its continued commitment to student success,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Colleges of Distinction applauds Seton Hill for pushing the envelope with its up-to-date curriculum, enriching the college experience with High-Impact Educational Practices, and fostering a commitment to provide its students with an education that stretches far beyond what’s typically required from an academic major.”

The selection process at Colleges of Distinction requires that institutions adhere to the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes. This process also includes a review of each institution’s freshman experience as well as its general education program, strategic plan, alumni success, satisfaction measures, and more.

“Colleges of Distinction is much more than an annual ranking of colleges and universities. Our goal is to select schools that are 100% focused on the student experience, driven to produce well-rounded graduates who are prepared for a global society and economy,” said Schritter. “Becoming a College of Distinction, like Seton Hill is proof that the institutions we select are fully invested in their students’ success, beginning on day one and continuing through the rest of their lives.”
