Recording Artist & CEO of High Five Productions Lyn Starr ’18 Receives Distinguished Alumni Award

Lyn Starr’s passion for music has served as a guiding light since he was a vocal performance student at Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School. He graduated from Seton Hill in 2018 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance and from the University of Southern California with a Master of Science in Music Industry in December 2022.

During his time at Seton Hill, Lyn participated in jazz ensemble and Una Voce, worked as a theatre electrician at the Performing Arts Center and as an intern at the WQED NextGeneration Fellowship.  He also  wrote and performed with the Alumni Theater Company. Lyn’s current endeavors include: working as the operation coordinator for Satiated Artists and as a live sound engineer for Second Song Entertainment in Los Angeles; leading as the founder and CEO of High Five Productions LLC; and serving as a music production contractor and live performance artist. Lyn also serves as a young artist mentor for the Alumni Theater Company of Pittsburgh and as a vocal teaching artist for Pittsburgh Festival Opera.

“Seton Hill is where I learned to create a strong work ethic that would allow me to responsibly move in the world.”

While at USC, Lyn was involved in the Thornton Community Engagement Program, bringing music education-oriented programming to elementary schools. In 2020, he was named one of three Black Teaching Artists-in-Residence as part of the Unisound & Act 3 Consulting Partners program in Pittsburgh and has received several grants from The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council. Lyn has released five mixtapes and five EPs to date – along with several singles and other music projects – and has performed more than 40 live shows. “Seton Hill is where I learned to create a strong work ethic that would allow me to responsibly move in the world,” he says.
