Seton Hill University's Jackie Greathouse, RN, Selected for Prestigious National Award

Seton Hill University’s Jackie Greathouse, a registered nurse in the Office of Health Services, has been selected as the winner of the 2024 Mid-Atlantic College Health Association New Professionals Award. The award recognizes American College Health Association (ACHA) members who have provided service to the field of college health for five years or less, and who have made significant contributions to their institutions and/or affiliates.

She will be recognized at a reception on May 29 at the upcoming ACHA annual meeting in Atlanta.

Jackie recently organized and executed Seton Hill’s first health fair in February. The fair featured more than 30 booths set up by SHU students and organizations and community participants and saw almost 300 attendees.

Jackie is a former Emergency Room nurse who transitioned to college nursing at Seton Hill in August 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. She took leadership over universal COVID-19 testing on campus, creating testing schedules, organizing volunteers, leading contact tracing efforts and developing a creative tool to help the team process tests efficiently.

Greathouse said her faith inspires her work.

"Be real, stand tall, spread kindness, laugh, and don't shy away from speaking up when it counts. If there is anything good in me, it is only because of Him living in me,” she said, adding from Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Jackie was nominated by Seton Hill Director of Health Services Annette Smiach with a letter of support from Vice President for Student Life and Athletics Rosalie Carpenter.

"Jackie is a positive and energetic team player; she is constantly thinking of ways our department can continue to improve and expand our services to meet the ever-changing needs of students and the campus community,” Smiach said.

Jackie will earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Seton Hill in May.
