Seton Hill University Earns National Recognition as a College of Distinction

Seton Hill University has received national recognition for its individualized and engaging education as one of the 2019-20 Colleges of Distinction.

This award is unique among popular college guide classifications. Seton Hill earns its recognition for the excellence exhibited in the classroom, incorporating High-Impact Practices throughout every student’s undergraduate education. Such student-centered programs include community-based learning programs, service-learning programs, alternative Spring Breaks, diversity and global learning programs, undergraduate research, capstone projects, study abroad programs and internships.

In addition, Seton Hill has received specialized recognition in Business, Education, and Career Development from Colleges of Distinction. These additional accolades were borne out of a need for college curricula that are comprehensive not only in course material, but also in practical- and soft-skills development. Seton Hill has met these needs with a blend of liberal arts education, program-specific training, and abundant opportunities for real-world application.

“Seton Hill University is pleased to once again be named a College of Distinction for its innovative approaches to education grounded in both career preparation and the liberal arts,” said Seton Hill President Mary C. Finger, Ed.D. “As Seton Hill recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding, we continue to develop new academic programs and partnerships to prepare students for new and exciting career paths, including Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, and Nursing. We are especially pleased that our Business, Education and Career Development programs received special recognition. These honors illustrate Seton Hill’s longstanding commitment to ensure our students are provided with tremendous opportunities to learn, grow and find success after graduation.”

“We are so proud to see Seton Hill University walking the walk,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Colleges of Distinction knows that a truly valuable education can’t be measured by rank or reputation. Students learn and thrive best when they embrace hands-on learning in a vibrant, welcoming community. That’s why it’s so encouraging to find Seton Hill take such an innovative approach with its curriculum: its High-Impact Educational Practices ensure that the undergraduate experience is worthwhile and unique.”

Colleges of Distinction’s selection process consists of detailed interviews and research for each institution’s freshman experience and retention efforts alongside its general education programs, career development, strategic plan, student satisfaction, and more. Schools are accepted on the basis that they adhere to the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes.

Seton Hill University’s specialized badges in Business, Education and Career Development represent a curriculum that invest in students’ innovative, critical thinking. Colleges of Distinction grants this further honor after a thorough review on such qualities as accreditation, breadth of program, and a track record for success.
