Seton Hill Student-Athletes Earn Highest Overall GPA in PSAC for Fifth Time in Six Years

Seton Hill University student-athletes earned the highest overall GPA among all colleges and universities in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference during the 2018-19 academic year, PSAC Commissioner Steve Murray announced.

The Griffins earned an overall average GPA of 3.407, marking the fifth time in its six years in the PSAC that Seton Hill has earned the top GPA in the conference.

Overall, six Seton Hill teams – baseball, women’s basketball, women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, men’s track and field and women’s track and field - earned the Top Team GPA Award for their respective sports.

"All of us at Seton Hill offer our congratulations to our student-athletes for earning the highest GPA in the PSAC for the fifth time in six years,” said Seton Hill President Mary C. Finger, Ed.D. “These outstanding students continually demonstrate their commitment to achieving at the highest levels both in their classes and in their athletic pursuits.”

Added Executive Director for Athletic Programs Christopher Snyder, “Year-after-year Seton Hill’s student-athletes continue to work hard to find success as both students and athletes. I am proud of the dedication all of Seton Hill’s student-athletes have shown in achieving the overall highest GPA in the PSAC and, in particular, I commend the six teams who earned the Top Team GPA Awards on their outstanding accomplishments. I would also like to commend our coaching staff for all of their efforts in recruiting such a high caliber of academically prepared student-athletes."

The six Seton Hill athletic teams received the Top Team GPA Award from the PSAC for reaching the highest GPA among their sports across the conference, which includes 17 public and private institutions in Pennsylvania.

The awards, released at the conclusion of the academic year, honor the teams with the top cumulative team grade point average in each of the sponsored sports within the PSAC. The league hosts 23 championships, however, for the award purposes, indoor and outdoor track and field are counted as a single sport.

The Seton Hill teams with the highest GPA among their peers include: women’s basketball (3.733); women’s golf (3.712); women’s track and field (3.594); women’s lacrosse (3.567); baseball (3.350); and men’s track and field (3.288).

The women’s cross country team (3.744) and women’s soccer team (3.590) finished second in the Top Team GPA Awards.
