Seton Hill Adult Degree Program Grad Becomes Executive Director of Greensburg Community Development Corporation
Ashley Kertes was not the typical student – she obtained her degree in business administration at age 30. Her time in Seton Hill’s Adult Degree Program helped her find a job working in the city she loves.
A Greensburg resident originally from North Huntingdon, Pa., Ashley worked in healthcare and attended community college to become an ultrasound technician. After realizing she wanted to pursue a different career, she looked at Seton Hill’s Adult Degree Program to obtain her bachelor’s degree.
"If it wasn’t for the Adult Degree Program I wouldn’t have such a rewarding career.”
“Having a full-time job Monday through Friday, I didn’t think I’d be able to fit an education into my busy schedule, so that’s when I looked into Seton Hill,” Ashley says. “It was close, convenient, an excellent school and one of the only schools around here aside from online institutions that offered evening classes.”
Ashley balanced her full-time job as a payroll and retirement department manager at the Westmoreland County Courthouse with her studies. She says the best part of the program was the ability to attend classes that fit her schedule.
After graduating from Seton Hill in December 2017, Ashley was hired as the executive director of the Greensburg Community Development Corporation. She is looking to attract more young people to the downtown area and hopes to bring more businesses and development to Greensburg.
“My position at the Greensburg Community Development Corporation allows me to assist business owners and community leaders with the development of the city in which I live. The City of Greensburg is the capital of Westmoreland County and should reflect that through it's downtown appearance and amenities. I am grateful for the opportunity to help my community in this way.”
Ashley also plans to maintain the “strong relationship” between Seton Hill and the GCDC by continuing to offer internships to students.
“I can’t say enough good things about the education I received at Seton Hill. If it wasn’t for the Adult Degree Program I wouldn’t have such a rewarding career.”
