On September 28, students attending Bobby Petrocelli’s alcohol and risk prevention program had an opportunity to receive information from a variety of local providers. Two SHU football players worked a table that provided students with information about sexual violence and the opportunity participate in the Pledge against sexual violence. 148 students signed the pledge. During the week of November 13 pledge hands signed by the students will be on display in Lowe Dining Hall. On Monday, November 13 from 12 - 1, two information tables will be available for students to get more information regarding sexual violence and alcohol. Research shows that these two prevention topics are linked. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) reported in 2002 that more than an estimated 70,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 survive alcohol-related sexual assault or date rape each year. www.edc.org/hec.
