British science fiction author and screenwriter Philip Palmer will offer a public lecture on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Seton Hill University. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. in Cecilian Hall on the second floor of the Administration Building on Seton Hill University’s Greensburg, Pa. campus. The event is sponsored by Seton Hill University’s Master of Fine Arts in Writing Popular Fiction program.

Palmer, of London, England, is the author of several science fiction books, including “Debatable Space” and “Red Claw.” His books have been called “rip-roaring space adventures,” “free-wheeling extravaganzas” and “breath-taking thrill rides.” He is also a screenwriter, who has worked in both radio and television.

Palmer, of London, England, has been on campus for several weeks working with writing students and teaching two modules during the Writing Popular Fiction Residency, including “Less is More: The Craft of the Screenwriter,” and “Future, Alternate, and Fantastic Worlds.”

His public lecture, titled “Truth and Fiction,” will delve into the role of research in writing and how to make the fictional seem real. A book signing and reception will follow the presentation.
