Dr. Robin Joyce’s primary teaching responsibilities include the neuromuscular content in the DPT program, as well as serving as assistant in the pediatric module. Dr. Joyce has over 25 years of clinical experience as a physical therapist including pediatric day school (1996-1998), inpatient rehab (1996-2005), including general rehab (deconditioning post-cardiac or other surgeries, S/P joint replacements), neurologic rehab (stroke, TBI, SCI), acute care/inpatient/outpatient rehab float (2005-2007), and outpatient neurovestibular PT (2007-present). Outpatient rehab clinical focus has included evaluation and treatment of individuals w/ various vestibular diagnoses (BPPV, vestibular neuritis/labyrinthitis, cochlear implants, Meniere’s w/ resultant unilateral or bilateral vestibular hypofunction and/or loss), concussion, amputations, geriatrics w/ deconditioning, DJD, and/or neuropathy who have a Hx of falls/are at risk for falls, TBI, SCI, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, ALS, Huntington’s Diseases, PSP, teen-adults w/ cerebral palsy, and functional gait disorder. Since 1998, Dr. Joyce has regularly served as a certified clinical instructor, mentoring part-time and full-time DPT students from various universities. Dr. Joyce has been an adjunct clinical lab assistant in the Neuromuscular module for the University of Pittsburgh Physical Therapy Program since 2005, mentoring small groups, performing demonstrations, assisting w/ lab practical exams at the end of spring and fall terms. Dr. Joyce has extensive conference attendance and continuing education related to her teaching responsibilities in the program and is continuing to maintain clinical practice, treating patients with neurological conditions, where she will continue to attend monthly in-services as a member of a highly trained outpatient neurovestibular clinician group at UPMC Centers for Rehab Services.
