The Community Music Program is designed to develop the musicianship of children and adults in the local area. The faculty, staff and facilities of Seton Hill University provide a comprehensive program for students wishing to advance their musical training and performance through quality musical instruction.
Students who are just beginning or those who have studied for many years can benefit from the knowledge and experience of a professional faculty member. The focus of our program is serious and thorough study, as well as personal growth through music. Lessons are private and are individually scheduled between the teacher and the student after signed registration and payment has been received. Weekend and evening hours are available.

The program year is divided into three semesters: Fall, Spring, and Summer. New students may begin at any time. Continuing students must register for each semester.
Tuition for Music Lessons and Classes
- Total payment must be made before any 10 or 7 week session begins. Students registering for a 16 or 13 week session must pay either the total fee or one half of the total fee before receiving their first lesson.
- Tuition for classes must be paid in full regardless of the time of enrollment.
- Tuition charges and fees do not cover the cost of the books, music or instruments.
- Tuition may not be credited from one session to the next.
- Students enrolling for private instruction after the start of the session will be charged on a prorated basis.
- No refunds will be made after the first four lessons of any semester.

Assignment of Teachers
Teachers will contact students by phone to schedule the lesson time after the registration and fee is received.
Community Music teachers are qualified Seton Hill University music faculty and Community Music Program faculty. Student teachers are selected upon recommendation of the chairperson and faculty and are supervised by their instructors. Unless previously arranged, all students are assigned to faculty; student teachers are assigned only when faculty teachers are unable to accept new students or when special requests are made.
Recitals are scheduled during the semester to provide the students the opportunity for individual as well as group performance. Students are encouraged to participate.
Attendance and Make Up Policy (Private Lessons)
Each teacher is expected to follow the Community Music Program calendar and to keep a record of the lessons given. Students are expected to attend lessons and classes at the times scheduled. In case of school closure, inclement weather, teacher absence, or student illness and emergency, make up lessons will be arranged by the teacher for a suitable time before the end of the semester.
Only one make up lesson as a result of student illness or emergency can be guaranteed for each semester. The teacher is not required to make up any other lessons canceled by the student. In case of cancellation, students and/or parents should make every effort to contact the teacher directly within 24 hours of the scheduled lesson. If this is not possible, a message can be left with the Director at (724) 552-2923, but lessons canceled by the student with less than 24 hours notice will be lost. Any student arriving late will receive only the remaining time of his or her scheduled lesson. Lessons must be completed by the last day of the semester; teachers are given five work days to give any guaranteed make up lessons during the Fall and Spring semesters. Any lessons not taken by this time will be forfeited.
