International Exchange Program
Seton Hill International Exchange Program Overview and Application Process
What Is an International Exchange Student?
An exchange student is a visiting student from a partner university who studies at Seton Hill for one semester, takes Seton Hill University courses, and receives credit at their home institution. Exchange students remain enrolled at their home university and do not enter a Seton Hill degree program, allowing a flexible one-semester study experience.
Why Participate in an Exchange Program?
Seton Hill’s exchange programs allow students from partner universities to:
-
Experience academic life at an American university.
-
Improve language skills and intercultural competence.
-
Earn transferable academic credits.
-
Participate in campus activities, clubs and events.
-
Immerse themselves in U.S. culture while maintaining progress toward their degree at home.
Costs and Financial Responsibilities
Exchange students continue to pay tuition at their home during their exchange semester.
Students are responsible for:
-
Housing and meals.
-
Travel expenses, including flights, passports/visas and local transportation.
-
Health insurance that meets U.S. requirements.
-
Books, supplies and personal expenses.
-
Any university fees associated with campus services.
Exchange students should plan to arrive at least one week before the semester begins for orientation, housing check-in and course preparation.
International Exchange Application Process
1. Nomination by Home University
Students must first be nominated by their home institution. Once the nomination is received, the student can begin the exchange process.
2. Form Submission
Nominated students complete this online form.
3. Enrollment Confirmation
Once approved, students receive an official notice confirming their eligibility to enroll.
4. Certificate of Finances
Students must provide documentation showing they can cover living expenses, insurance, books, travel and other personal costs for the duration of their stay.
5. Approval Letter from the Home University
A formal letter from the home institution must confirm the student’s eligibility and selection for the exchange program.
6. Visa Documentation (I-20 Preparation)
After financial documentation is approved, Seton Hill's Office of Global and Cultural Connections prepares the required visa paperwork.
7. Course Scheduling
Accepted students work with academic staff to select and register for courses.
8. Billing and Tuition Remission
University offices finalize billing arrangements and apply any exchange-related tuition remissions.
