International Undergraduate Student Admission Requirements

Applying to Seton Hill's Undergraduate Program as an International Student

Ready to join Seton Hill University as a first-time freshman or transfer student? Review our application deadlines and follow the steps below to complete your application. Once we’ve received your application and all required materials, we’ll review your file and make an admission decision. We encourage you to apply early, especially if your previous coursework needs to be evaluated by a professional foreign credential service.

What Defines an International Student?

At Seton Hill University, an international student is defined as anyone who is not a U.S. citizen and does not hold U.S. permanent resident (Green Card) status. Most international students will need an F-1 Student Visa or a J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa to study in the United States.

Application Deadlines for Undergraduate International Students

  • Fall Term (begins in late August): Submit your completed application by July 1.
  • Spring Term (begins in late January): Submit your completed application by December 1.

International Undergraduate Student Admission Requirements

1. Submit Your Application

Apply online through Seton Hill University’s online application or the Common Application.

2. Secondary School (High School) Transcripts

Submit your secondary school or high school transcript as part of your application.

  • If you’re currently in your final year, please provide official, course-by-course grade reports, mark sheets, or transcripts for the past three years.
  • If you’ve already graduated, include your official graduation certificate.
  • If your records are not in English, certified English translations are required.

3. Postsecondary (College or University) Transcripts

Submit your postsecondary school transcript as part of your application.

  • If you’ve completed coursework at a college, university, or professional school outside the U.S., provide official transcripts or mark sheets from each institution attended.
  • Credit may be granted for coursework equivalent to classes offered at Seton Hill, based on a required course evaluation from World Education Services (WES).
  • If your records are not in English, certified English translations are required.

4. Submit English Proficiency or Test Scores

English proficiency documentation is required for all applicants.

  • Native English speakers: Submit SAT or ACT scores.
    • SAT Critical Reading: 470+
    • ACT Composite: 20+
  • Non-native English speakers: Submit one of the following:
    • TOEFL: 79–80 (iBT) or 213 (CBT)
    • IELTS: 6.0
    • Duolingo English Test: 100
    • Completion of 30 semester hours at a U.S. college or university
    • Completion of an ESL program

After You've Been Accepted to Seton Hill:

5. Submit Your Certificate of Finances

Submit your Certificate of Finances (CFR) to verify your ability to cover educational and living expenses for one academic year, including:

  • Tuition
  • Housing and meals
  • Technology fees
  • Insurance
  • Books and supplies
  • Transportation

Seton Hill will provide the Certificate of Finances form after you’ve been accepted for admission.

6. Submit Your International Student Deposit

A $1,000 deposit is required, which includes:

  • $500 Admissions Deposit
  • $150 Housing Deposit
  • $350 I-901 SEVIS Fee  (Students may also choose to pay the I-901 SEVIS fee directly on their own.)

7. Get Connected with the Office of Global and Cultural Connections

Student Visa
