KPMG Brings Experiential Learning to Seton Hill Workshop

Last week, the Seton Hill Business & Technology Department partnered with KPMG to host an experiential learning workshop for undergraduate students. Over 60 students from four business classes worked together on a case study meant to simulate the projects that interns work on at KPMG.

Anastasiia Adamova is the Coordinator of Outreach and Innovation for the School of Business and Technology, as well as an Instructor in the department. She spearheaded this workshop to help students establish a connection with KPMG, practice skills outside of class, and begin thinking about internships.

“Experiential learning like this bridges the gap between classroom theory and real-world execution,” Adamova said. “It teaches students how to navigate ambiguous, complex problems rather than relying on textbook answers.”

Students from accounting, finance, business management, and cybersecurity disciplines each brought their perspective and experience to the case study. Ryan Colello, a sophomore accounting major, got to work on the case study with fellow student athletes he doesn’t typically have class with. “It really made us think, Colello shared. “ And just doing stuff with a different group of people was really nice.”

Ryan Collelo, Anna Alt, and Clayton Speakman work together to solve the case study.Colello enjoyed the KPMG workshop not only for the experience it provided, but for the chance to practice his skills outside of a traditional classroom setting.

“I was able to use some of the skills I’ve learned here at Seton Hill to apply to the different things we did today,” Colello said.

A major component of this workshop was internship preparation. Representatives from KPMG spoke to students about internships with their company and what to expect. They gave insight into application timelines, company expectations, and the connections and experience interns gain.

Colello was grateful for the insights. He said, “...it was really nice to actually have someone get up there and tell us how it’s gonna be, when to apply… it was really nice to learn about all of that.”
