Mother and Daughter Graduate Together

Emma Koval graduated from Seton Hill in May 2026, with a bachelor’s degree in pre-art therapy.  Her mother, Angela Koval, earned her Seton Hill bachelor’s in Allied Health Leadership on the very same day.  (Emma earned her degree through the traditional 4-year on-campus undergraduate program, while Angela took advantage of Seton Hill’s Online Bachelor’s and Certificates Program.) Emma kindly took a few minutes out from celebrating to answer a few questions about her Seton Hill experience.

What made you choose Seton Hill University?

I chose Seton Hill because of its respected art therapy program, and stayed for its amazing community and beautiful scenery.

Why did you choose the Pre-Art Therapy degree?

I discovered art therapy during a very challenging and dark period of my life, and I fell in love with the profession. It brought me a sense of hope and relief during a time of struggle, and my dream is to provide that escape for others. I always loved creating art and helping others, so learning that I could combine the two in my career was very motivating.

"I loved being able to grow as a scholar with her and am so happy we get to share this milestone."

What has your experience at Seton Hill been like?

Attending Seton Hill has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I have met so many incredible people and made lifelong friends. Seton Hill has given me opportunities I never would have received elsewhere, which I am extremely grateful for.

Do you have any advice for someone who is considering Seton Hill?

Don't give up when things get hard; you never know what opportunities are right around the corner!

How did it feel to be a Seton Hill student at the same time as your mother?

It has been so rewarding to attend college at the same time as my mother because we were able to hold each other accountable and motivate each other to keep going through classes and responsibilities. I loved being able to grow as a scholar with her and am so happy we get to share this milestone. She is one of my biggest inspirations in life, as she was able to get three kids into college while working full-time and going back to school herself. I couldn't have done it without her!
