Teaching Anatomy with Apple

Bobbi Leeper, Ph.D. is the associate professor of Biology and Physician Assistant Programs and the coordinator of Medical Studies at Seton Hill University. She’s also a big fan of using mobile technology in the classroom.

“Since I teach anatomy-based courses - Human Gross Anatomy, Histology and Neuroscience - images and drawings of the anatomical structures and cells are important for students to understand and visualize the content. Since I use my iPad (with the GoodNotes app) I am able to easily zoom in on smaller images to point out structures to the class and I can draw on my slide images or draw my own images.”

Dr. Leeper also uses her iPad and Apple Pencil when grading and reviewing student work.

“Students submit their assignments on Canvas so I can use the SpeedGrader function on the iPad and directly write my comments onto students’ assignments.”

As Dr. Leeper’s students have access to Apple technology through Seton Hill’s Mobile Technology at the Hill Program, it’s easy for them to follow along in class.  Many of her students also use the iPad and Apple Pencil to complete assignments.
