Connecting at The Hill and Exploring Abroad: Grace Ketler
Physician Assistant BS/MS major Grace Ketler is making the most out of her time at Seton Hill University. In addition to being in the Physician Assistant program, she participates in multiple clubs, does research and service projects, and has studied abroad.
“Enrolling in the PA Program at Seton Hill is one of the best decisions I have made in my life.”
The strength of the Physician Assistant program is what drew Ketler to Seton Hill, but it’s the professors and friends she’s made that have enriched her life beyond the classroom.
“The professors at Seton Hill are amazing, the small classes maximize my academic experience, and I have made lifelong friends at Seton Hill,” she said. She values the work tasks that students get to complete, as well as the hands-on experience they gain in labs and during research projects. This year, Ketler is working on a research project with Assistant Professor of Biology, Dr. Brett Aiello. Their team is researching why Bombycoid moths are an ideal model clade for scientific research.
Ketler says that a number of professors have made lasting impacts on her academic journey. Even outside of the PA program, professors have guided her in lessons of academic perseverance, understanding complex concepts, and gaining confidence as a student and a medical provider.
“Enrolling in the PA Program at Seton Hill is one of the best decisions I have made in my life,” Ketler said. She offered advice to others entering the program, “Logistically, I would recommend doing as many job shadows as possible to feel confident in what you want to do in life, and if you do enroll in the PA program - get an iPad!”
For ten days this past summer, Ketler participated in a Study Abroad trip to France and Spain. Since she has a minor in French, Ketler was able to practice her skills in real-life scenarios. Not only did she get to explore new countries, but she was able to immerse herself in the language that she’s learning. The group visited everywhere from beach towns to busy cities, and explored the historic churches throughout Europe. She recounts visiting Biarritz and San Sebastian as her favorite destinations, and lighting a candle in Notre Dame as a memory for a lifetime.
At Seton Hill, Ketler is able to explore all of her interests while also getting a rigorous education. She is a member of the PA Society, Pickleball Club, French Club, and a co-founder and the president of the Soccer Club. Ketler also enjoys participating in various service projects around campus, including the annual tradition Labor of Love.
