Grad Programs at Seton Hill Use Apple Products to Prepare Students for Careers in Health and Therapy

While all full-time undergraduate students at Seton Hill receive MacBook Air laptops regardless of major, graduate programs have a choice as to whether to provide them. More and more programs are making that choice. Currently, Seton Hill master’s programs in Physician Assistant, Art Therapy with Specialization in Counseling, Orthodontics, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy all provide their students with Apple technology.

The accredited M.A. in Art Therapy Program with Specialization in Counseling at Seton Hill is both clinical and art-based.  It teaches the skills necessary for the effective practice of art therapy and counseling in a variety of environments. Students graduate with the educational requirements needed to attain credentials as a nationally recognized Board Certified Art Therapy (ATR-BC) and a Pennsylvania Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

"Pedagogy, policies and processes are literally designed around the technology and Apple resources."

“We opted to provide Apple technology to our Master of Art Therapy with Specialization in Counseling students because it creates a level playing field with quality supplies for their education,” says Associate Professor and Program Director Dani Moss, DAT. “Our graduate students are adult learners and live off-campus. Some students commute over an hour to campus on the nights of the week they have classes. The MacBook allows for reliable connection remotely, creating a more flexible adult-learning experience and a more flexible instruction design.”

Seton Hill’s accredited Advanced Specialty Education Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics combines didactic, clinical and research components to prepare dentists to become Board Certified Orthodontists. Resident dentists work with patients at the Seton Hill Center for Orthodontics, which provides affordable orthodontic treatment for patients of all ages.

“We use Apple technology because the advancement of digital orthodontics has made it essential to have a reliable, consistent platform for reviewing imaging, planning treatment, and supporting clinical education,” according to Professor and Program Director Dan Rinchuse, DMD, MDS, PhD. “MacBook laptops integrate well with the tools we use and help streamline both learning and patient care.”

Dr. Moss agrees. “As a program that incorporates visual art, the Apple tools innate to the MacBook are reliable and create a seamless sharing through face-to-face and online communications. For example, we use Photo Booth, iMovie and Preview. AirDrop allows for quick photo sharing and file sharing from iPhone to MacBook to Apple TV. We show personal and client artwork in our supervision courses, so quickly popping an image up on the large screen and then pivoting to a real image is part of our workflow. The Apple technology is a staple in our program. Pedagogy, policies and processes are literally designed around the technology and Apple resources.”
