Creating Community Through Art

The Seton Arts Service Corp is a program in which Seton Hill students give back to the community with art. Through visual art, dance, music and theatre, Seton Hill students teach the next generation of creatives. Each summer, a group of kids from the local community spend a week exploring different art mediums and creating. It provides them with a fun way to socialize during the summer and learn something new.

Seton Arts Service Corp is a cooperative program with the Sisters of Charity. The program is led by Associate Professor of Art and Sister of Charity, Sister Mary Kay Neff. In addition to the summer camp, the program teaches art classes at local schools throughout the fall and spring semester. The program allows students to continue the sisters’ tradition of service to the community.

"The program allows students to continue the Sisters’ tradition of service to the community."

This year, students learned some dance basics with art major, Alma Podoletz and dance major Alexza Lynch. They learned about Tableau and Props in their acting class. It was taught by Dimitri Apodiakos and Colby Miller, both musical theatre majors. Art education major, Allie Angiolieri and art therapy major Lauren Sauka guided them in creating swimming pool self-portraits during visual arts class.

By the end of the program, students have a collection of art pieces, dance moves, and happy memories to inspire their creativity for the year to come.
