Fostering Caring and Creativity: Social Work Major Finds Creative Refuge in the 3D Printing Lab
Completed just in time for spring, a 3D printed daisy table is the latest creation of junior Ben Sanner. Intended as a Mother's Day gift, the table features a leafy green base topped with a classic white and yellow flower-shaped tabletop.
"The liberal arts credits provide an outlet for students to learn new things in a positive environment.”
A social work major, Sanner took the 3D printing class as an elective. Classes like this, he says, “broaden my skill set in life.”
“It is really difficult to get out of your comfort zone," he added. "The liberal arts credits provide an outlet for students to learn new things in a positive environment.”
Sanner is pursuing a degree in social work with an emphasis on behavioral health and addiction. Sanner chose this major to learn how to help others on an individual and community level. Having a creative outlet on campus helps Sanner take care of himself, too. After obtaining his degree, Sanner plans on pursuing a master’s degree, becoming a licensed clinical social worker, and practicing family and relationship therapy.
Sanner created the daisy table in Seton Hill 's state-of-the-art 3D Printing Lab located in the Arts Center. He used the software Fusion 360, PLA plastic filament, and an OrangeStorm Giga printer to create and print the design.
