Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony

Despite our best intentions, Seton Hill will not hold an in-person Commencement ceremony in August for the Class of 2020 graduates as we had originally hoped.

Unfortunately, recent spikes in COVID-19 cases throughout the country and ever-changing guidelines and restrictions challenge our ability to plan for a large-scale event.  At this time, Pennsylvania has a 14-day quarantine polity for anyone coming into Pennsylvania from any one of 15 states with high coronavirus case numbers. This quarantine requirement would make it nearly impossibly for some graduates to return in August for Commencement.  In addition, as we prepare for the safe return of students to campus for the Fall 2020 semester, we anticipate that many out-of-state students will now need to quarantine in our residence halls for two weeks prior to the start of the semester on August 17, which would fall during our planned time for Commencement.

We plan to celebrate the Class of 2020 at a future Commencement ceremony.  May 2020 graduates will have the option to participate in the December 2020 or the May 2021 Commencement ceremony.

For those graduates who have already ordered academic attire through the Bookstore:

  • Thank you and please know that order will remain active and we will receive your academic attire before the Commencement ceremony in which you choose to participate.
  • If you would like to cancel your order and request a refund, please contact Herff Jones at 1-800- 837-4235.
  • For those graduates who need to purchase academic attire, you will receive communication from the Office of Student Affairs via your Seton Hill email account on how to place an order for attire before each ceremony.
  • Graduates are asked to please watch your Seton Hill email for information about the December 2020 and May 20201 ceremonies.

Please be in touch with Beth Kepple at with any questions or concerns.

Commencement Celebrations

Seton Hill University observes three dates for graduation each year: May, August and December. In addition, special commencement ceremonies are held in January and June for Writing Popular Fiction graduates. Degrees and certificates are formally conferred only at the commencement exercises in May and December, or in January and June for the Writing Popular Fiction graduates. Exact dates for commencement are noted on the Seton Hill academic calendar.

A Graduation Application (PDF) for a degree or certificate must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office before the beginning of the last semester of study and not later than March 15 (for expected May or June graduation), June 15 (for expected August graduation), or October 15 (for expected December or January graduation). If you are a current student and want to ensure that you are on-track for graduation, please check with your academic advisor or contact the Registrar's Office.
