A Message from President Mary C. Finger, Ed. D.
Last spring, The Allegheny Conference on Community Development released “Inflection Point,” a groundbreaking report on the workforce development needs in the 10-county Pittsburgh region.
“Inflection Point” highlighted the changing nature of business and industry in the region and the ways that demographics will lead to a shortage of skilled employees over the next decade. The report is a roadmap for business leaders and educators on the ways we can work together to address the region’s needs and provide our students with the education that will lead to successful careers.
When I first read the report, I was struck by the academic programs that Seton Hill offers and others under consideration that address some of the very serious issues facing the region and the evolving marketplace.
Notable Seton Hill University initiatives from the recently completed academic year include:
- A new major in Health Science
- A new major in Cybersecurity
- The MBA program now offers a fully online component for working professionals
- New online adult degree programs are now available
- Seton Hill’s Career and Professional Development Center worked with faculty to create Fit for the World, a career preparation program that is integrated into the classroom, which recently received recognition as a Model of Excellence by University Business Magazine.
While all of these initiatives are critical to providing a Catholic education in the best traditions of the Sisters of Charity, we know too we want our students to have the best learning and living spaces possible.
We continue to implement the Campus Master Plan that will accommodate our growing student population.
Mary C. Finger, Ed.D.
