SHU Baseball Earns Seventh Straight NCAA Regional Appearance

For the seventh straight season, the Seton Hill baseball team is making an appearance in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional after being selected as an at large participant when the field of 56 was selected on May 15. The Griffins, 39-16 overall, earned the number five seed in the region. The team is coming off a 3-2 showing in the PSAC Tournament after finishing the PSAC West schedule with a 19-9 record in conference play good for second place.

The Griffins beat Shepherd in the opening round of the tournament on Thursday, May 19. Shepherd finished the season with a 37-13 record. The Rams earned the Mountain East's automatic bid after winning the MEC Tournament with a win over West Virginia State. The Griffins now play #1 seed Millersville today at 3 p.m.

The Atlantic Region tournament is hosted by Millersville University at Owls Field in West Lawn, Pennsylvania. Owls Field is comprised of elevated terraces on both the right and left field lines, which is designed for "lawn chair" viewing. There are no bleachers in the stadium, so fans attending the tournament are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets for a comfortable view of the games. Owls Field is welcoming to left-handed batters with dimensions down the right field line at 305 feet. The field is 360 feet in left field, 385 in left-center, 415 in center and 375 in right-center.  Ticket prices for the event are: $30 for an adult tournament pass, $15 for a student/senior tournament pass, $10 for an adult daily ticket and $5 for a student/senior daily ticket.

Millersville earned the number one seed in the tournament. The Marauders finished the season with a 47-5 record. Millersville won the PSAC East regular season title and finished as runner up in the PSAC Tournament, falling to West Chester in the final.

The winner of the Atlantic Regional will advance to the 2016 NCAA Division II Baseball Championships, hosted by Mt Olive at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, NC. The tournament will run from May 28-June 4. The Atlantic Region Champion will take on the South Central Region Champion at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 28.
