Seton Hill Alumnus Marcus Peterson Signs with Los Angeles Chargers

Former Seton Hill University wide receiver Marcus Peterson recently signed a contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, the first former Seton Hill football player to join a National Football League team.

"The entire Seton Hill University community congratulates Marcus Peterson on signing with the Los Angeles Chargers, fulfilling his dream to reach the National Football League," said Seton Hill President Mary C. Finger. "We wish Marcus the best as he pursues his goals, and we hope to see him in a Chargers uniform this fall."

“Only a small percentage of football players ever reach the NFL, so it is a testament to Marcus’ hard work and dedication that he has gotten to this point in his career,” said Seton Hill Head Football Coach Isaac Collins. “He serves as a wonderful example to our current players about putting a plan into action to reach their goals.”

A native of Inglewood, Calif., Peterson spent four seasons as a member of the Seton Hill football team from 2012-2015 where he had five receptions for 74 yards and two touchdowns.  Marcus also spent time on the Seton Hill Track and Field team.

After his collegiate career, Peterson tried out in front of NFL Scouts at a Regional Combine and played for the former Los Angeles K.I.S.S. of the Arena Football League.

Peterson spent time with the Derby Braves in the European Football League where he contributed to both the offense and the defense playing as wide receiver and defensive back.  He had more than 70 catches for over 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns in a season with the Braves.

This past January, Peterson signed a contract with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Indoor Football League.  Before playing a game with the Barnstormers, Peterson left in March to play in the Spring League Showcase.  The Spring League is an elite developmental league and scouting event for professional football talent.  The league allows NFL Scouts, General Managers and Player Personnel Directors to evaluate the player’s talent.

While Peterson is the first Seton Hill football player to sign an NFL contract,  another former Griffin wideout, Sammy Tranks, signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.  He played two seasons in the CFL, winning one Grey Cup Championship.
