Seton Hill’s new Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) campus organization has received a $600 HSBC Financial Literacy Grant. The grant will underwrite costs associated with a SIFE project to teach basic financial skills such as balancing a checkbook, using credit cards effectively, budgeting, and sound major purchase decision-making to members of Seton Hill’s local community who are striving to become financially independent.

The SHU SIFE team is part of a global network that consists of business executives, university students and academic leaders. SIFE members from universities around the world form teams that serve their local communities by developing projects that take what they are learning in their classrooms about business and using it “to solve real world problems for real people.” The SIFE organization on Seton Hill’s campus is advised by Assistant Professor of Business Dr. Doina Vlad, and is open to all majors. The next meeting of SIFE will be held March 3, 2008, from 5 – 6 PM in A402. Future meetings will be held every other Monday until May 5.
