Bishop Anthony Bosco and Stan Sheetz to receive honorary degrees during ceremony

Greensburg, PA โ€“ Seton Hill University is proud to announce that Mr. Stan Sheetz, President and CEO of Sheetz Inc., will speak at its Saturday, May 8 commencement exercises. Bishop Anthony Bosco will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during the ceremony, while Mr. Sheetz will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

"We are delighted that Mr. Sheetz will address our graduates," said Seton Hill University President JoAnne Boyle. "He is an extraordinary leader in an extraordinarily dynamic business."

"Seton Hill is such an entrepreneurial school - what a great example of entrepreneurship Sheetz is!" said Seton Hill senior VanDye Nelson, explaining why the graduating class chose Stan Sheetz as its speaker. "It all started with a little ma & pa corner shop and is now ranked 109 on Forbes 500 List of Top Private Companies."

Sheetz, Inc. - founded as a single store in 1952 by Stan's father Bob - is privately owned and family-operated. Stan credits the continuing success of the Altoona-based company to an investment in excellent personnel and the continued involvement of six closely-knit family members. The company currently operates 295 convenience stores in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and Ohio, as well as two mall-based concept stores in North Carolina.

Stan Sheetz graduated from Bentley College in Boston, MA, in 1977, and earned his MBA in Financial Management from Pace University in New York in 1979. After graduation, Stan gained experience working for Colt Industries, Citibank and Alpha-Laval in New York City before returning to Sheetz in 1981. In October 1995, Stan Sheetz was promoted to President and CEO of Sheetz, Inc. Stan also serves as Chairman of the Board for the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) and serves on the board of the Omega Financial Corporation.
