Seton Hill University is seeking adult string musicians for Sinfonia at Seton Hill, a new artistic and educational ensemble performing repertoire for chamber orchestra.

Sinfonia, which is sponsored by Seton Hill University, the University’s Community Arts Program and the Westmoreland Symphonic Winds, will include Seton Hill string majors, non-majors and community adult string musicians. In addition, select members of the Westmoreland Symphonic Winds will partner with Sinfonia to perform works for full orchestra.

Rehearsals will take place on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Seton Hill University Performing Arts Center ensemble rehearsal room. Sinfonia will perform concerts on November 15 at 4 p.m. and April 16 at 3 p.m.

Sinfonia is conducted by David Anderson, an adjunct professor of music at Seton Hill University who teaches music theory and serves as staff accompanist. Anderson is music director of the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra in Wisconsin and a freelance pianist in the Pittsburgh area. Previously, he was on the music faculty of Beloit College where he conducted the orchestra, taught applied and class piano, music theory, and helped develop an El Sistema-inspired program that paired music students with at-risk children to help them develop music skills through group activities and lessons. In addition, he was on the artistic staff of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra in the Chicago Suburbs. Anderson holds both a bachelor of music and a master of music in piano performance from Baylor University and a master of music in orchestral conducting from the University of Illinois.
