As part of Instructor Crystal Byerly’s Primary Care Module course, the Seton Hill University Physician Assistant Class of 2012 volunteered time and participated in the ParentWISE of Family Services of Western Pennsylvania Ice Cream Blast held at the Kirk Nevin Arena in Greensburg, Pa., on Saturday, July 17.

The event featured entertainment, music, arts and crafts, games, activities, basket raffles and tasty treats. Each of the 1,000 attendees received a piece of cake and ice cream; attendees voted on their favorite ice cream flavor.

The Seton Hill University Physician Assistant students created several activities for the children in attendance. The activities promoted physical activity and encouraged steps to prevent childhood obesity. They also distributed brochures about physical activity, safety and good nutrition for children.

“By participating in the event, our students fulfilled the health promotion and wellness education requirement for the Physician Assistant Program,” said Byerly.
