Dan McCarty, Seton Hill University men’s soccer and golf coach, has been named associate athletic director. In his expanded role, McCarty will manage the athletic department’s business functions in addition to his coaching duties. Seton Hill added an associate director to its athletics staff as part of the ongoing expansion of the University’s overall program for athletics.

McCarty will support Seton Hill’s athletic director John Fogle. Fogle commented, “Dan’s energy and good judgment will be essential as we work together to expand both the men’s and women’s programs at Seton Hill.” “Dan led our men’s soccer team to a solid showing and worked well through the first-year challenges. As we introduce men’s basketball in the fall of 2003 along with women’s field hockey, and men’s lacrosse, baseball, and cross country Dan’s enthusiasm and expertise will help to facilitate a smooth transition.”

Men’s soccer, the first-ever men’s team to play at Seton Hill, finished its inaugural season as a club team 7-5-3. The team will play in the American Mideast Conference of the NAIA in 2003. Dan McCarty said, “We are proud of what our first year, all freshmen team accomplished—their record as a club team was more than respectable—it went beyond our expectations.”

Fogle added, “Athletics have always been an important part of student life at Seton Hill. As we’re working to grow our men’s teams, the women’s teams continue to do great things—the volleyball team went to the division playoffs this year and the basketball team is off to a phenomenal start. Our new office structure will enhance current programs and allow us to prepare for accelerated growth.” McCarty said, “I look forward to helping Coach Fogle as he works to carry Seton Hill’s athletic program into the future. With groundbreaking planned for the new recreation complex and new athletic programs coming, we have a great deal to offer student athletes and our student population in general.”

McCarty and his family recently returned to the Pittsburgh area after living in Atlanta, Georgia for several years. While in Atlanta, McCarty coached high school soccer and worked as an assistant golf professional at a private country club.

Both McCarty and Fogle report to Msgr. David Rubino, Special Assistant to the President of Seton Hill University. For more information about the athletics program at Seton Hill, please contact athletic director John Fogle, at 724-838-4259, or click on score at Seton Hill's website.
