Seton Hill University President Mary C. Finger, Ed.D. has announced the appointment of Melissa Alsing as the University’s Chief Information Officer. Ms. Alsing’s appointment is effective immediately.

“Melissa Alsing has served Seton Hill’s information technology department in various capacities for the past six years – including one year as Acting CIO. During that time, she has shown tremendous leadership in developing policies and procedures for the use of technology at Seton Hill and supporting students, faculty and staff in their endeavors to implement technology in the classroom," Finger said. "We are pleased that Melissa will continue to assist the University as we work to expand and enhance our technological capabilities in and outside of the classroom."

“I am delighted to continue my work at Seton Hill University as Chief Information Officer,” Alsing said. “Seton Hill remains a leader in the use of technology, and I look forward to working with the University's talented information technology team, as well as faculty and the Center for Innovative Teaching, in guiding the innovative use of technology by students, faculty and staff.”

Melissa Alsing was selected from a field of about 50 applicants for the position of Chief Information Officer. In this role, she sets priorities for the University’s information technology staff and manages Seton Hill’s network infrastructure, academic technology support, administrative software support, telecommunications, media services, web and cloud development and the Help Desk.

Alsing has served in various capacities at Seton Hill for six years. She came to the University in 2009 and served for four years as Director of Information Systems, DBA (Database Administrator). She was promoted to Executive Director of Information Technology in 2013 and advanced to Acting CIO in February 2014.
Prior to arriving at Seton Hill, Alsing worked for eight years at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pa. where she served in several roles, including Manager of Administrative Systems, DBA; Manager of Web Development; Web Development Specialist; and Administrative Computing Specialist.

Alsing earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer information systems from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Business Administration degree from Chatham University.
