GREENSBURG, PA- The following students have been selected by the CAPS team for recognition as National Trio Day Representatives: senior Ryan Galloway of Vernon, NJ, junior Dawn Myers of Scottdale, PA and junior Janet Brooks of Connellsville, PA. These students were recognized at a luncheon on May 8th. Ryan Galloway graduated in December, a semester early, with a BA in instructional design. He began classes at Seton Hill the same day as he graduated high school. Galloway served as a CAPS mentor, graduated in 3 1/2 years, worked throughout his college career, volunteered and was later employed by the Activities Office, served as an Office Assistant for two years and served as a peer helper for students with video projects. Currently he works part-time for the Seton Hill media services. In high school, Galloway sang four years with the county chorus, was a member of the regional choir his junior and senior years, made All-State chorus his junior year and was a member of the Music Honors Society and Thespian Honors Society. In addition, he won the volunteer award from New Jersey State for participation in the Winslow Therapeutic Riding Program. Dawn Myers is a junior with a major in family and consumer sciences specializing in early childhood, elementary and special education. At the College, Myers has been a member of the Education Club and the Family and Consumer Sciences Club. She has served as a CAPS mentor for two years and was a Student Representative for the Admissions Office. Myers has also participated in the College’s Labor of Love volunteer day activities for Labor Day. She is a certified open water scuba diver and played volleyball in high school and recreationally now at the YMCA in Greensburg. Myers has currently serving a special education practicum at Clearview Elementary School in Greensburg and a reading practicum at Connellsville Zachary Connell Elementary School. Additionally, she has been asked to serve in the CAPS Advisory Board for 2001-2002. Janet Brooks is a junior with a major in family and consumer sciences specializing in early childhood, elementary and special education. She is an active volunteer for at the Westmoreland Food Bank and is a member of the Education Club and Family and Consumer Sciences Club. She serves as a Student Representative for the Admissions Office and has composed two letters that are used by admissions in their recruitment. She has been a CAPS mentor for two years. Brooks is currently serving practicums at Zachary Connell and Clearview Elementary Schools. The students received a certificate of recognition. In addition, Myers and Brooks will be asked to serve as student representatives on the CAPS Board of Directors. The TRIO program, a federal program that supports first-generation, academically under-prepared, or financially disadvantaged students sponsors an annual National Trio Day to show appreciation to students.
