GREENSBURG, PA- John Fogle, Athletic Director at Seton Hill College, announced that Mary Kathleen Strimel, daughter of Archie and Peggy Strimel of Bridgeville, PA, has accepted a softball scholarship and will be attending Seton Hill College in the Fall of 2002.

A senior at Quigley Catholic High School, Strimel is a member of the girls’ varsity soccer, basketball and softball teams. She was a 2001 World Scholar-Athlete Participant at URI in softball, was chosen for the Quigley Classic Basketball Game, is a one-year letter winner in soccer, three-year letter winner and captain of the basketball team and four-year letter winner and captain of the softball team. Strimel will be placed in the Quigley “Hall of Fame” for receiving 8 Varsity letters, was selected Most Improved Player for softball in 10th grade and Most Improved Player in basketball in 11th grade. In addition, she was invited to play softball in the 2002 European Union Games this summer at Limerick University in Limerick, Ireland.

Strimel is also a member of the National Honor Society, the Math League of PA, and is listed in Who’s Who in Sports, Who’s Who Among American High School Students. She was named a Pittsburgh Post Gazette All-Star Achiever and a Baden Economics Student of the Month. She is involved with Music Ministry, the Yearbook Club, Band, Chorus, the Beaver County Honors Chorus and the Pittsburgh Diocese Honors Chorus. Strimel serves as a tutor for Spanish and religion, served on the Homecoming Court, was a principal actor in the school’s musical and serves as piano accompanist for the school chorus.

Strimel volunteers for the American Cancer Society, Special Olympics, Beaver County Dialysis Clinic by entertaining seniors, Saints Peter and Paul’s Kindergarten and first grade classes as a teaching assistant, and assists religious teachers with underclassmen’s religious retreats.

Strimel plans to major in math and engineering and study in the honors program at Seton Hill.
