Creative Writing Major Receives Keystone Press Award for Movie Review

English major Patrick Crossen earned first place in the 2018 Student Keystone Press Awards for a movie review he wrote for the Setonian, Seton Hill’s student-run news source.

“The movie review was a piece giving people an alternative to franchise films/spinoffs,” he says. “It was called ‘The cure to franchise fatigue,’ and it was a review of the films ‘Lady Bird,’ ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri,’ and ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer.’ It was for people who aren't sure what to see when there are no superhero films in theaters.”

In addition to being an award-winning reviewer, Patrick writes fantasy (he’s currently working on his first novel) and sketch comedy with his writing partner Chris. Chris performs the sketches with his group Mr. Gooses at the Arcade Comedy Theater in Pittsburgh.

“When I'm not writing,” Patrick says, “ I'm probably at the movies, getting ready to write about whatever I'm watching, and if I'm not at the movies, I'm eagerly checking my mailbox for my Hogwarts letter.”
