Making A Major Decision? We Can Help.

Help Choosing a Major and CareerNot sure where you’re headed? Or know where you want to go, but not sure how to get there? Relax. Many students start college before making a decision on a major field of study. It’s also common to change majors as you move through your academic career. Seton Hill has resources in place that will keep you moving in the right direction.

Support For New Students Who Are Still Exploring Majors

If you enroll at Seton Hill as an "undecided" major, you will be assigned an Exploratory Studies Program academic advisor. Exploratory Studies Program advisors will help you:

  • explore majors and careers that match your interests
  • enroll in courses that will keep you moving forward while you explore your options

As an Exploratory Studies Program student, you will also be enrolled in the course SGS 104 Career and Major Exploration. This course will provide tools and information to support the work you’re doing with your advisor. Once you’ve decided on a major, you will be reassigned to a faculty academic advisor in your major.

Support For Seton Hill Students Who Want to Switch Majors

If you declare a major but later decide it's not a good fit, you can switch to the Exploratory Studies Program at any time.  You will then be assigned an Exploratory Studies Program Advisor, who will work with you to chart the way forward.

Career & Professional Development Center

Career Center GraphicThrough Seton Hill’s Career and Professional Development Center, you will have the opportunity to work with a career advisor who will be available to you from your first day as a Seton Hill student until you begin working in your chosen field. Your advisor can help you identify the careers that interest you, and the academic course of study that supports each. Career advisors work closely with all Exploratory Studies Program students.

Faculty Advisors

Once you have enrolled in a major you will have a faculty advisor who will assist you in getting the most out of your academic experience. Faculty advisors help you select the courses you need to meet your goals, and can provide assistance in choosing a career or graduate study in their area of expertise.
