Theatre Auditions & Interviews 2023-2024

Admission requirements, which vary for each theatre degree, are listed below. You can audition in person or submit a video.

In-Person Auditions

To schedule an audition or interview, complete the Theatre Audition Request Form. A member of the theatre faculty will contact you to schedule your appointment.

In-Person Audition Dates

Online/Video Submissions Auditions

Audition requirements are the same as those outlined below for in-person auditions under each degree heading. Any interviews are arranged virtually. To schedule your Online/Video Submission Audition, complete the Theatre Audition Request Form and indicate your choice of an online audition.  

Video Submission Guidelines (online auditions only)

• Please try to capture the highest quality video(s) possible. 
• Use your phone's best camera (normally the rear-facing camera) to record video(s) - in landscape orientation. 
• Make sure you are in a well-lit area.

• Consider your background. If you are able, make it neutral - a plain wall or a clean and organized space. 

• If you don't have a phone, use your laptop.  Your phone or laptop mic should be fine.

• Please post your online audition as an unlisted video or videos on YouTube and provide us with the link(s) through the Theatre Audition Request Form.

Applicants wishing to compete for a Visual & Performing Arts scholarship should complete the process prior to March 23, 2024. 

Audition/Interview Requirements for Each Theatre Degree

• Acting (B.F.A.)
• Musical Theatre (B.A. & B.F.A)
• Theatre Performance (B.A.) 
• Theatre Arts (B.A.) & Theatre Business (B.A.) 
• Theatre Design & Technology (B.F.A.) 

Acting (B.F.A.)

Prepare two contrasting monologues: one classical and one contemporary. Though not a requirement, we recommend using material from published plays and screenplays.

Musical Theatre (B.F.A.)

• 2 monologues from full-length plays. Choose contrasting pieces that show you at your best. (1.5-2 minutes each)
• 2 song selections, an uptempo and a ballad, from musicals. You must bring clearly marked sheet music in the correct key. (1.5-2 minutes each) 
• 2 dance combinations. For dance, learn the two combinations from the links below and be ready to present them.
  • BFA Dance Combination (MT) (VIDEO) 
  • BFA Ballet Combination (Guided) (VIDEO)
  • BFA Ballet Combination With Music (VIDEO) 
• If you have tap experience, you may also bring tap shoes to demonstrate your proficiency with specific steps.
• Interview with theatre & dance faculty will occur immediately following your audition.
• All selections must be memorized.

Musical Theatre (B.A.)

• 2 contrasting memorized pieces, each about 1.5 - 2 minutes long.
• Monologue from a full-length play.
• Song selection from a musical, preferably of contrasting tone (a comic song if your monologue is serious, or a ballad if your monologue is comic). You must bring clearly marked sheet music in the correct key. 
• Interview with theatre & dance faculty will occur immediately following your audition.
• All selections must be memorized.

Theatre Performance (B.A.) 

• 2 monologues: please prepare two contrasting memorized pieces, each about 1 - 2 minutes long. The first selection should be a monologue from a full-length play; the second selection should be another monologue, preferably of contrasting tone (comic if your first piece is serious, or vice versa).
• Interview with theatre & dance faculty will occur immediately following your audition.

Theatre Arts (B.A.) & Theatre Business (B.A.) 

No auditions or interviews are required for admission for these degrees, but are necessary if you wish to compete for a Visual & Performing Arts scholarship. To complete an optional audition or interview for either degree, choose the requirements listed below under either Theatre Performance (B.A.) or Theatre Design and Technology (B.A.)

Theatre Design & Technology (B.F.A.) 

Optional Interview and Work Samples: No interview or submission of work samples is required for admission, but is necessary if you wish to compete for a Visual & Performing Arts scholarship. This is an opportunity for the faculty to learn about your goals and the kinds of work you have done in theatre and for you to showcase your artistic skills.
