Seton Hill Orthodontic Resident Dr. Robert Schudy Serves Haitian People

Seton Hill University Orthodontic Resident Dr. Robert Schudy recently took his fifth service trip to Haiti.

Schudy traveled to Anse-à-Pitres, Haiti during the summer to volunteer his time and talents.

“I am thankful to have the knowledge and skill as a dentist to serve the people in a tangible way,” said Schudy. “I consider it a privilege. To me it is a natural overflow of my Christian faith.

Hispaniola Mountain Ministries coordinated dentists and other health care professionals to help both children and adults with much needed dental care.

This is Dr. Schudy's fifth trip to Haiti to help others in need. Dr. Schudy is an orthodontic resident studying orthodontia at the Seton Hill University, Center for Orthodontics.

“It is hard to describe what I see there. Both Haiti and the Dominican Republic have many who live in poverty,” Schudy said. “The poverty in Haiti in particular is really beyond comprehension. To see it is one thing but to truly understand what it is like day after day and year after year is another.”

He continued, “The relationships are what keep me going back year after year. Several of the people I met in both the Dominican Republic and Haiti I consider my friends. They are special friendships.”
