Born in Chicago. After college at St. Mary University, MN, I served four years in the Peace Corps in Swaziland, southern Africa. Post-Peace Corp I received my Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. I spent several years raising my two daughters and teaching in the evenings while my wife, also a University of Chicago Ph.D., taught ecology at St. Vincent College. I joined SHU in 1998 in philosophy.
