Holly Kistler (SHU 09) Makes Sure Babies Get the Best Start to Life

Holly Kistler works to ensure that babies in Collier County, Fla. get the best start to life as possible and educates their mothers on good nutrition.

Holly graduated from Seton Hill in 2009 with a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. She now works as a public health nutritionist for the Florida Department of Health, providing diet and nutrition information and counseling for clients in Collier County’s Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program. WIC is a federal nutrition program that provides assistance to pregnant and postpartum women and their children up to age five.

She works one-on-one with clients to monitor their nutrition and overall health during pregnancy and after and helps educate them on the best foods to eat and the healthy kinds of meals they can serve children. As the supervisor in her office, which is the largest of three in Collier County, she serves about 3,000 clients.

“You just see the huge need that there is with this population of people that don’t know much about nutrition or taking care of themselves, and you feel like you are having a greater impact because any bit of information you share with them is helpful.”

Seton Hill’s young alumni are making their mark on the world through their work in science and healthcare, finance and business, industry, entertainment and service to those in need. The Spring/Winter 2017 edition of Seton Hill’s Forward magazine featured 30 of these alumni, all under the age of 30. You can find all of their stories here on Seton Hill’s site (just look for the “30 Under 30” icon).
