Using Tech to Teach - and to Learn
While technology will never replace traditional teaching techniques at Seton Hill, the Griffin Technology Advantage opens exciting new avenues for teaching and learning - and can often serve as a way to deliver information to a wide variety of students with a wide variety of learning styles in a way that engages them fully.
Meet Your Mac Training Program
"Can I still right-click on my Mac?" "Where do I find my files?" "How do I save my files?" "What is the 'Macintosh HD' icon?" "How do I connect to the Internet?" There will be multiple opportunities for Mac adopters to have these and many other questions answered in training sessions to be offered during the Fall 2010 semester. A series of training opportunities will be provided from August through November 2010 to familiarize MacBook adopters with their new 13" MacBook Pro laptops; specific dates and times of the sessions will be posted within Griffin's Lair under the Happenings section, enabling participants to register for their preferred sessions in advance. Training has been categorized as follows and will be conducted in one-hour sessions:
Mac OS & Basic Functionality
"How do I...?" A series of hands-on sessions will fill in the blanks to this question and provide answers by introducing the user to the Mac OS, the System Preferences dialog box, the Dock, the Finder, and a multitude of other features that will enhance productivity.
VMware Fusion with Windows XP
"Cloud computing" is the future of computing technology and VMware enables the user to walk in this cloud. VMware provides the ability for the user to run the Windows OS on his/her MacBook Pro laptop through a virtualization process. This hands-on training session will lead the user through the cloud, demonstrating how to open VMware and run a virtual MS Windows environment on the MacBook.
More training sessions will be developed and delivered by the Seton Hill CIT department.
