ALPHA LAMBDA DELTA [Academic/Community Life]

Purpose and Mission
The mission of the ALD is to encourage superior academic achievement, to promote intelligent living and a high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals in society.
Goals and Objectives
To induct members from the current sophomore class, to provide community service activities, to provide a mentoring program for new members and possibly local high school students, to have all members participate in at least two service projects, to provide special honors (cords) to graduating members, and to construct novel fundraising activities.
BIBLE STUDY [Community Life]

Purpose and Mission
Learn more about Jesus Christ through the study of His word; and for individuals to grow in their faith through study, discussions, and Christian fellowship.
Goals and Objectives
Christian fellowship, study and discussion of the Bible, and aid in the growth of personal relationships with Jesus Christ.
BILLIARDS CLUB [Recreational]

To increase our skills in billiard playing and expand our minds on the cultures of different members.

BIOLOGY CLUB [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
Nurture student awareness and foster student growth in the understanding of all aspects of biological sciences through campus and community involvement.
Goals and Objectives
Fundraise for the Teroderma Pigmentation Society, hold a biology demonstration at a local school, host a senior banquet, collaborate with the Green Club to clean Campus, offer a CPR demonstration, and be a part of the habitat restoration mission.
BUSINESS CLUB [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
The Business club is a group of Business and Accounting majors committed to cooperatively furthering our knowledge and interest in business activities, gaining new insights from professionals and each other, participating in activities geared towards advancing our knowledge and contribution to our field of study, encouraging our members to pursue their professional goals in various managerial roles, becoming a center for support and understanding for each other, and using our education to be sensitive and reactive to community needs.
By using this statement as a basis for the Business Club, we will strive to provide each member with the skills, knowledge, and experience that can only be gained from inside, and outside the classroom activities. Our activities support the work of the Business student groups, the award winning Society for Human Resource Management student chapter, and the American Marketing Association college affiliate, and the Society for Training and Development.
Goals and Objectives
Co-sponsor with Business Program the Human Resource Management's Training 7 Development Best Practices Forum and the Canned Food Drive, grow professional student organizations for Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), American Society for Training and Development, and the American Marketing Association (AMA), fundraise for a non-profit organization, fulfill plans of Seton Hill University's SHRM student chapter and Seton Hill University's AMA collegiate chapter, YWCA's Working Woman's Closet volunteer time, host one field trip, focus groups conducted for local entrepreneur, interviewee workshop, in conjunction with HR Management class, open to entire student body, participate if Seton Hill University's Make-A-Wish October activity, have three speakers come to campus, fundraise for the Business Club, plan meetings for every two weeks, unless more is necessary, and volunteer for NECWB March 2006 women business leaders conference.
CHEMISTRY CLUB [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
The chapter will embrace the value of "service" to the university and to the community by conducting outreach programs which promote science education among young people, especially females, and projects which promote well being of under-represented individuals or groups.
Goals and Objectives
Continual service and outreach to the community, host a seminar series featuring Seton Hill University Alumni, host monthly enrichment meetings to educate our members, and develop "green chemistry" projects and service activities so the club can be recognized as a green club.
COLLEGE REPUBLICANS [Community Life]
Advisor: Dr. Josh Sasmor
Purpose and Mission
Stimulate in young people an active interest in government affairs, promote friendship and cooperation amongst Republicans, and to foster and perpetrate conservative ideas and principles on campus.
Goals and Objectives
To promote conservatism among students, to participate in local and state election campaigns, to become more prominent on the state CR organization, and to develop a weekly newsletter.
COMPUTER SCIENCE CLUB [Academic]
Advisor: Dr. Christopher Diaz
Purpose and Mission
The Computer Science Club presents an environment for students to learn and discuss popular and advanced topics that pertain to computer science as well as similar technical disciplines. Because Computer Science is a constantly evolving field, the Club will be a vital avenue for students to keep abreast of current trends, issues, and problems. To help prepare students for their upper-level years and post-graduation, students will also become familiar with careers, workforce demands, and graduate schools. The Computer Science Club targets not only Computer Science majors, but also other majors that utilize computing, such as Business and Information Management, Mathematics, and engineering.

Hold monthly meetings to discuss current or new computing trends, computer science jobs, careers, internships, and professions, and organize and hold a Computer Science/Math contest for area high school Computer Science and Math clubs.
C.R.A.F.T. - CReating Art with Fiber, Together [Campus Life and Recreational]

Purpose and Mission
To create a community of would-be fiber artists who will create projects both individually and collectively using a variety of fiber working methods like knitting, crocheting, sewing, and other traditional and/or innovative techniques. In turn, our community will seek to use our creations to create a better community around us through donations, fundraisers, and beautification projects.
Goals and Objectives
Explore new avenues or artistic expression by learning/teaching each other new crafts; Arrange sessions focused on different fiber crafts with local artisans and experts; Challenge traditional notions of what constitutes art as well as who can create it; Relax and commune with fellow members as we C.R.A.F.T.
DANCE PROJECT [Recreational]

Purpose and Mission
Broaden knowledge and appreciation of the art of dance through structured classroom participation and community involvement.
Goals and Objectives
To perform throughout the year during campus functions and community events, gain broader knowledge of dance through observation of other local performance groups, and to travel outside of the greater Pittsburgh area to participate in master classes taught by world-renowned dancers and choreographers.
Democrats [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
To interact with the political community, whether it be at a state, local and federal level. Like the College Republicans, our aim is to register voting and encouraging students to participae in their government. We would also like to provide students and local citizens with the opportunity to meet with politicians as well as our political candidates.

To launch SHUD and establish a foundation by recruiting students to become active members. Host local primary debater for county commissioner.
Dietetics Club [Commuity Life and Academic]

Purpose and Mission
To further our own knowledge as well as educating our community about healthy living and eating and serving our community.
Goals and Objectives
Throughout this semester, we plan to organize a senior appreciation event and begin a program for the incoming freshman to educate them about the Freshman 15. Also, we would like to get involved with a service project like going to the Youth Shelter or Charitas Christi. Lastly, we would like to plan a fundraiser like a Pampered Chef event or a kickball tournament.
EDUCATION CLUB [Academic and Community Life]

Purpose and Mission
To advocate for the rights of children in the education field. The club will also engage in community service for the betterment of kids.
Goals and Objectives
To twin with a school in the area of the South, sponsor an Early Childhood Education Forum Spring Break service trip to New Orleans or Mississippi.
ENGLISH CLUB [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
To fine tune student creativity, promote literacy, and raise awareness of professional options while engaging and volunteering in the community.

To establish ourselves as a viable club, raise funds to support our activity, gain recognition as English majors, establish a chapter of Sigma tau Delta at Seton Hill University, and create a community for English majors.

FENCING CLUB [Recreational]

Purpose and Mission
To promote the sport of fencing, to practice and teach the techniques of fencing, and facilitate competition if the members of the club wish to compete.
Goals and Objectives
To take over St. Vincent and UPG through the force of arms, attend a competition with another school, build a strong membership, and to make sure we can learn safe practices of the sport of fencing.

GAY\STRAIGHT ALLIANCE [Community Life]
Advisor: Sue Eichenberger and Rebecca Harvey
Purpose and Mission
To provide support, education, and aid for any student at Seton hill University concerned about issues pertaining to sexual orientation;
To provide a "safe place" for students concerned about issues pertaining to sexual orientation;
To participate in the effort to educate the Seton hill community about issues surrounding diversity and inclusiveness especially in regard to ( but not limited to) sexual orientation, homophobia, discrimination, discrimination, coming out, and hate crime;
To create a balanced forum for discussion concerning homosexuality;
To promote unity between the gay/lesbian/transgendered and straight comminutes at Seton Hill University.
Goals and Objectives
The Gay-Straight Alliance will seek to:
Provide discussion groups and forums for all students concerning issues of sexual orientation;
serve as a resource center for students concerned about sexuality
Hold regular meetings open to all members of the Seton hill community interested in the objectives of the Gay-Straight Alliance.
Support social justice causes at large by devoting time to humanitarian efforts;
Increase the level of acceptance and sense of self worth for members of the SHU community in regard to sexual orientation;
provide appropriate literature and to her resources to address issues concerning sexual orientation;
Add 'sexual orientation' to the SHU non-discrimination policy;
Provide social activities for the entire SHU community so as to promote unity and friendship.
The Gay-Straight Alliance will not:
Sponsor activities which are not in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church on homosexuality;
Use the university's name to imply that the college approves of or advocates homosexual lifestyle, homosexual behavior, or sexual activity.
GRAPHIC DESIGN CLUB [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
Get students involved in the local design community, create a community of their own, and help them build leadership skills that will be valuable as they move in to the professional world.
Goals and Objectives
Get more members active, even non-graphic design students, as well as offer free advertising for other clubs so that members can get hands-on designing experience. They will visit design studios/museums in the Greensburg and Pittsburgh areas, also they will develop leadership skills and teamwork skills among the group and amongst other clubs.
Green Club [Community Life]

Purpose and Mission
To raise awareness about local and Global environmental issues by identifying solutions and implementing local actions for a cleaner and environmentally friendly community.

To form a recycling program on campus, to promote environmental prevention, to increase our enrollment, and to have a mini fair on Earth Day.
Green Thumb Club [Community Life]

Purpose and Mission
To work together in helping to make Seton Hill's campus as beautiful as possible.
Goals and Objectives
The main goal of this club is to make sure that the landscape (particularly the gardens) look as colorful and neat as they can be. Also, we are really working to have everything ready for graduation.

INTERCULTURAL STUDENT ORGANIZATION

Purpose and Mission
Through services, structured and informal programs and activities, as well as the development of interpersonal relationships, The SHU ISO students are empowered to explore and develop global citizenship, leadership and spiritual development; social, educational, and cultural activities; attention to physical, psychological, and emotional wellness; and the social acclimation of the individual to the community.
JUDO CLUB [Recreational]
Advisor: Dr. Mike Atherton
Purpose and Mission
The mission of the Judo Club is to provide an opportunity for Seton Hill students, faculty, staff and alumni to experience kinesthetic (physical and sensory) learning through the sport of judo. Judo is an internationally respected competitive sport that offers judoka (those who practice judo) full-body exercise, a method for self-defense, and an introduction to Japanese culture and thinking. Judoka can choose to practice kata form (for exercise and wellness) or enter competition, and both are respected choices in the Club. Judo is a life-long sport with people regularly practicing into their late 60s and 70s. Seton Hill's Judo Club is a member of PA Judo.

To continue to provide high-level instruction in judo to promote health and wellness, and to give Seton Hill students, faculty, staff and alumni the opportunity to experience kinesthetic learning.
KAPPA OMICRON NU HONOR SOCIETY [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
Create empowered leaders in family and consumer sciences and nutrition/dietetics through scholarship, research and leadership opportunities. (To be eligible, members must be in the top twenty-five percent of the student population in the field of family and consumer sciences and nutrition/dietetics.

Provide leadership opportunities for professional practice, build strong affiliation network to develop leaders, encourage high standards of responsibility for the public good, and participate in service and mentoring activities.
Labyrinth Club [Recreational]

Purpose and Mission
To build and maintain a labyrinth on campus. Education about the labyrinth and its purpose.
Goals and Objectives
To build a labyrinth on campus for use by faculty, students and members of the community, fundraising for any maintenance needs, and to educate the community about the many benefits of having a labyrinth in the community.
Lambda Pi Eta - Communications Honor Society [Academic]

Laser Runners (Recreational)

To expand the imagination, create a friendly, yet competitive atmosphere, and find the meaning of life through the art of laser tag.

To produce a stress-relieving atmosphere for all who play and to ensure a positive environment for personal growth.
MAKE A WISH [Community Life]

Purpose and Mission
To aid in the fulfillment of a child in needs wish by community activities, bonding, and carrying on the tradition of the Sisters of Charity.
Goals and Objectives
Raise $3500 to make a wish of a local child come true through the Make A Wish Foundation.
MATH CLUB [Academic]
Advisor: Dr. Joshua Sasmor
Purpose and Mission
To bring together people who are interested in mathematics and expose them to ideas that may not b introduced in a typical course, and to increase the understanding and appreciation of mathematics in the Seton Hill community.
Goals and Objectives
To have regular meetings to discuss interesting topics and problems in mathematics and related applications, promote interactions with mathematicians and mathematical organizations outside of Seton Hill University, and raise funds to send students to conferences and meetings of a mathematical nature in the area.
MEDITATION OASIS [Recreational]
Advisor: Laurie Jones
Purpose and Mission
To teach members about the benefits of meditation. Members will learn to focus their thoughts. The point of meditation is to turn off the conscious part of the brain and access the subconscious. Once this focus has been established, the process for inner peace begins. This will help students to learn to deal with stress easier and teach them to organize their thoughts to prevent overwhelming feelings.

MUSIC THERAPY CLUB [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
To give awareness to the community about Music Therapy and Seton Hill's Music Therapy Department. We will also provide an outlet to Seton Hill Music Therapy students to give back to the community using their talents and Music Therapy Knowledge.
Goals and Objectives
To increase the awareness of Music Therapy by doing fundraisers and events that will involve the community. Also, to increase knowledge of Music Therapy by the club attending conferences in order to gain knowledge on what is happening in the Music Therapy profession.
NAACP [Community Life]

Purpose and Mission
To improve the political, educational, social and economic status of minority groups, to eliminate racial prejudice, to keep the public aware of the adverse affects of racial discrimination, consistent with the efforts of the national organization and in conformity with the Articles of Incorporation of the Association, its Constitution and By-laws and as directed by the National Board of Directors.

Increase knowledge of African American History, to encourage vote/registration, and community outreach.
PATH IN WELLNESS [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
Serve as the official organization for PA students to promote academic achievement and clinical excellence, and to promote the Physician Assistant as a member of the Health Care delivery team.
Goals and Objectives
Continue to maintain our national recognition through the American Academy of Physician Assistants, complete one service activity to community per semester, and become more recognized in community and also at Seton Hill University.
PMTA (Pennsylvania Music Teachers' Association) [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
Promote music in the education of students of all ages, encourage students and to enhance musical development in their lives through workshops, concerts, lessons and other musical opportunities, give collegiate music students the appropriate opportunities to practice teaching and enhance their own understanding of music in their own education, and to motivate, inspire, and enlighten future musicians of the world, so they in turn will have the knowledge to create generations of musicians to follow.

Attend state conference in November, hold a Christmas recital and a community workshop for music students in the spring.
POLITICAL SCIENCE ASSOCIATION [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
Provide education, outreach and political activism in order to become better informed and productive citizens of our local, state and universal communities.
Goals and Objectives
Attend Model United Nations from April 7-9 at the University of Pittsburgh, host mock trials in a mock court, provide an opportunity to participate in forensic competitions, organize political speakers and guests, and to conduct political forums and debates.
PSI CHI [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
Promote the advancement of psychology to undergraduate students.

Have students attend and/or present at a regional or national conference.
PSYCHOLOGY CLUB [Community Life]
Advisor: Dr. Alvaro Barriga
Purpose and Mission
Promote the mental health awareness among the Seton Hill community, also serve as a resource for those interested in careers in psychology and as a networking and social organization for people interested in psychology.
Goals and Objectives
Sponsor speakers on campus relating to careers and/or issues in psychology, have a Field trip to Torrance State Hospital, sell stress buckets to resident students, and sponsor one or more "mental health awareness" events.
RECYCLING TEAM [Community Life]
Advisor: Dr. Jeff Atkinson
Purpose and Mission
The SHU Recycling Team is committed to demonstrating social responsibility by conserving resources, and showing landfill growth, thus creating a positive impact on the surrounding community.
Goals and Objectives
Continue to improve the paper recycling program, increase awareness of the program throughout campus, and expand recycling program to include items such as plastic, glass, and aluminum.
RESPECT LIFE CLUB [Community Life]
Advisor: Sr. Ann Infanger
Purpose and Mission
Increase awareness of Life issues by educating and promoting choices that uphold the dignity of human life in all of its stages.
Goals and Objectives
Host: Prayer Breakfast, Memorial to the Unborn, Abstinence Presentation, Stem Cell Research Teach-in, March for Life, True Love Waits display, and a flower sale.
STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Student government is a self-governed student body led by the students for the students. Its purpose is to provide the Seton Hill community with the opportunity to voice their opinion on any aspect that may help to better our campus community.
The Executive Board of the SHGA meets weekly. Student concerns should addressed to the SHGA through the Senate meetings that are held bi-weekly on Thursdays at 4:00 PM in the Greensburg Room. These meetings are open to all students.
STUDENT IN FREE ENTERPRISE (SIFE) [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
To prepare the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders.
Goals and Objectives:
To prepare projects that take what students learn in the classroom about business and use it to solve real world problems. Also to participate in competitions with other Colleges SIFE members.
SOCIAL WORK CLUB [Community Life]

Purpose and Mission
Through club meetings, service, participation in educational events and other activities, members grow, meet others, enjoy interacting, and serve the community.
Goals and Objectives
Throughout this academic year our club plans to take numerous trips to the Greensburg YMCA Youth Shelter to participate in activities. We also plan to cook dinner for the men at the Union mission in Latrobe. We would also like to make donations to these organizations as well as another organization dealing with Hurricane Katrina relief.

Promote the study and awareness of Spanish and Hispanic cultures at Seton Hill and in the community at large.

Cultural presentations, student presentations on Hispanic Topics and engage with Hispanic members of the community.
STUDENT ART THERAPY ASSOCIATION (SATA) [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
SATA is an organization which promotes student awareness of current art therapy techniques, professionals in the field, and promoting art therapy in the community, our mission is not only to maintain our goals, but also to keep the connection between students, alumni, faculty, and professionals alike.

To promote professional growth among students, utilizing Seton Hill Alumni to gain new insights into the art therapy as well as other fields, and to increase all student interaction in the art therapy program.
STUDENT-BODY ACTIVITIES COUNCIL [Community Life, and Recreational]

Purpose and Mission
Provide enjoyable events on campus to bring academics together with community living, striving to make our campus lively and a great place for students to grow and have fun together. SAC gives students the opportunity to make the campus somewhere they would want to be. We give them the chance to bring what they would enjoy to campus, to make it their own.

STUDENTS IN THE ARTS (SITA) [Academic]

Purpose and Mission
Students in the Arts (SITA) seek to facilitate and promote interaction among students as well as faculty with an interest in the arts. SITA will assist with the cultivation of an appreciation of the history of art as well as of contemporary artistic practice by providing opportunities for discussion, activities, and visits to museums, galleries, and art events throughout the school year.

To provide information as well as an interaction as well as an interaction center for any student with interest in the arts, to create an open forum for communication among students and faculty, to promote awareness and campus appreciation for the arts at Seton Hill University, to encourage students to interact despite age or area of study and provide opportunities for student mentoring, to provide a variety of activities to coincide with the students' interests, and to work in accordance of one another to create an educational and social environment that will enhance the arts at Seton Hill University.
S.T.A.N.D [Academic]

To empower individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide.
Goals and Objectives
To promote awareness advocating for the end to the current genocide in Darfur, Sudan and working to create a permanent anti-genocide student movement.
THON [Community Life]

Purpose and Mission
To create awareness of a regional issue through the collaboration of the Seton Hill University and Greensburg communities by developing events to educate and raise funds.
