Seton Hill University initiated a national Catholic movement toward Holocaust studies in 1987. This was in response to the call of Pope John Paul II to recognize the significance of the SHOAH, the Holocaust, and to "promote the necessary historical and religious studies on the event which concerns the whole of humanity today" (8/8/87).
