Teaching Philosophy
I believe that private lessons can enhance any student's quality of playing the oboe, and make life more enjoyable for that student. A combination of scales, exercises, repertoire, and small ensemble work is included systematically throughout the students' lesson. In addition, music theory and concepts of listening are brought into a more advanced students' lesson. Any student who wishes to, can learn to make their own reeds and therefore become an independent and reliable oboist. I also encourage public solo performance and attendance at concerts, recitals and other cultural events as part of becoming a well-rounded musician!
Additional Information
I have been a freelance oboist since high school. I played with the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet Orchestras in the 1980s. I have been second oboist, solo English Horn in the Westmoreland Symphony since 1983; and I am principle oboe of the Westmoreland Symphonic Winds. I also give recitals, and do freelance work in Pittsburgh and Greensburg, and with the Seton Hill University Faculty Quintet.

Teaching Philosophy
My 20 years of experience as a private flute instructor have led to my teaching style, which is characterized by a logical approach encouraging rapid and solid progress. This has resulted in numerous students who have been accepted to prestigious honors ensembles and university music programs. Students are encouraged to enter competitions and to pursue high musical ideals while benefiting from my synthesis of time-tested methods gained through my own influential instructors.
Additional Information
I am presently performing in Seton Hill University Faculty Woodwind Quintet and as Principal Flute and Piccolo in Westmoreland Symphonic Winds. Problem solving and piccolo artistry are especially featured in my studio. I welcome students of all levels and ages and encourage participation in performances and competitions according to level. New students should register for 30-minute lessons, but returning students may register for any length desired.

Teaching Philosophy
I believe that education is a very individual experience. I recognize that each one of my students have different methods of learning and teach them accordingly in the way that will benefit them and help them grow the most as musicians. It is a goal for all of my students to be complete musicians. This means that developing musicianship, including but not limited to musical interpretation, ear-training, theory and history, is as important as learning to use the voice properly.
Additional Information
I have four years of experience teaching private lessons and four years of experience teaching in a classroom. My classroom experience includes chorus, band and general music at both middle school and elementary levels. All of my students are expected to practice regularly and are encouraged to participate in performance opportunities, especially those provided through the Community Music Program. I am an active member of Music Teachers National Association, Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association and the Westmoreland local chapter.
