Teaching Philosophy
Singing is a process of the mind, body and spirit. Each student is encouraged to find their natural voice. When you learn to sing naturally and healthily, you can sing any style of music. Emphasis in lessons is on communication, breath, text, technique (agility), language and musicality, not necessarily in that order!
Additional Information
I have been teaching at Seton Hill since 1987. I taught elementary music (vocal) in New York and Pennsylvania and have maintained a private studio of voice and piano students for 20 years. I am Director of Music (Organist/Choir Director) for the Aspinwall Presbyterian Church and perform in Opera and recitals in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan.
I am a member of National Association of Teachers of Singing; Music Teachers National Association; Presbyterian Association of Musicians; Choristers Guild; and the American Guild of Organists.

Teaching Philosophy
I believe that education is a very individual experience. I recognize that each one of my students have different methods of learning and teach them accordingly in the way that will benefit them and help them grow the most as musicians. It is a goal for all of my students to be complete musicians. This means that developing musicianship, including but not limited to musical interpretation, ear-training, theory and history, is as important as learning to use the voice properly.
Additional Information
I have four years of experience teaching private lessons and four years of experience teaching in a classroom. My classroom experience includes chorus, band and general music at both middle school and elementary levels. All of my students are expected to practice regularly and are encouraged to participate in performance opportunities, especially those provided through the Community Music Program. I am an active member of Music Teachers National Association, Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association and the Westmoreland local chapter.
