Education
B.A. from Lenoir Rhyne College (NC), with a major in Christian Education and a minor (almost a major) in music. MRE (Master of Religious Education) from Union Theological Seminary (NYC) with considerable course work and lessons in sacred music. Cantor's Certification from Swedish Music Conservatory (Stockholm)

Additional Information
My primary instrument is pipe organ, and I have performed numerous solo organ recitals both in Sweden and in the US. I have held various church organist and choir director positions and currently serve as organist at Christ's Lutheran Church in Murrysville.

I studied piano since age 5, received superior ratings in National Federation of Music Clubs festivals in high school, and continued to take piano lessons in college. I have also attended many piano pedagogy workshops over the years.

I started teaching piano as part of a public school program in 1972 in Sweden, where I resided from 1967-1979. While in Sweden, I also taught pipe organ at a community college. From 1979 to 1985 I had a private piano studio in northern Maine, and since 1986 I have been a piano instructor in the Community Music Program at Seton Hill. I am a frequent accompanist, including for Seton Hill voice students.

Teaching Philosophy
I believe that music touches the spirit and stirs the emotions. It enriches our lives with enjoyment, culture and leisure. The study of music teaches life skills such as patience and perseverance. I hope to instill in my students an appreciation for music while teaching them to play the piano with pleasure, artistry, and independence. I recognize the inherent goodness of my students, and value and respect them as unique individuals. Music contributes to their personal growth and is a meaningful way in which they can express themselves.

Additional Information
I have 9 years of experience teaching piano and organ and have taught elementary school music for 12 years. I am a member of the Music Teachers National Association, the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association and its Westmoreland Local Chapter.
