Computer Requirements
A resident student's computer should meet the following minimum requirements:
- 550 MHz CPU with 256 MB RAM (1+ GHz CPU with 512MB RAM - is preferred)
- running Windows 2000 or Windows XP; or a Macintosh w/256MB RAM running OS X.
- Either desktop or laptop/notebook computers are acceptable for residence hall use.
- If you wish to connect to the campus network, your computer must be equipped with a 10/100 Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC). You will also need a Cat 5 patch cable which is available for purchase at the Help Desk for a minimal fee.
- For your protection, a current anti-virus software package such as Avast, AVG, McAfee, or Norton is required.
- Anti-spyware software is highly recommended Windows Defender (included in Vista), Ad-Aware and Spybot are all free for download.
- A software firewall is also recommended and is included for free in Windows XP Sp2, and Mac OS X.
- Wireless connections require 802.11b/g WPA-2 equipped network cards.
