Travel Season- Winding Down… In the life of an Admissions Counselor, the fall is filled with many tasks. There is the joy of watching new students get acclimated to their surroundings, and the hustle and bustle of preparing for open house. These things pale in comparison to what our main focus of the fall is for us – travel. Travel season is all about counselors getting out into local communities, ensuring brand recognition for the university and making connections with potential students interested in our school. It is a busy time: day fairs, night fairs, high school visits and TONS of road time. It is a very important facet of our work. As the middle of November now rolls around, counselors in the Admissions office at Seton Hill are wrapping up the bulk of their travel. Most of us have been in and out of the office since early September. As to just where we have been this fall, Ashley Josay rigorously pays attention to Westmoreland and Allegheny Counties; Jessie DeHainaut has been focusing on northwestern Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, Billy Rood has been all over the country concentrating on out-of state recruitment and I have been all through Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Scranton, Reading and Wilkes-Barre. (I have to give a big shout out to all of the people keeping things rolling at home while we are away-where would we be without you guys?) Most recently, I have been participating in the Philadelphia PACCAO tour with Counselors form every Catholic University throughout the state. (PACCAO stands for Pennsylvania Association for Catholic Colleges Admissions Counselors…) This organization sets up tours of all of the Catholic high Schools in most of the Catholic Dioceses in Pennsylvania. There are tours in Erie, Pittsburgh, Reading, Harrisburg and Philadelphia. At the Philadelphia PACCAO, I have seen potential students from 20 High Schools in the Philadelphia Diocese in 7 days. It is quite an experience. The exposure that we gain from all of the PACCAO tours is invaluable to say the least. It is a great vehicle for us to be able to tell students all about what we can offer them at Seton Hill University It is a great time of year, and with travel winding down that means one thing-back to the office!
