Griffins, Lake Erie Play to 1-1 Tie

The Griffins prepared for their regular season finale on Saturday by traveling to Painesville, OH to take on Lake Erie. SHU and Lake Erie played to a 1-1 tie. Lake Erie jumped out to a 1-0 just three minutes into the contest. The game remained 1-0 until the 76th minute when Mike Pistentis tied the game at one. Both teams would be held scoreless for the rest of regulation and the two overtime periods. Both teams had several chances to win in the overtimes, with the best chance being a penalty kick by Doug Schmitt which was stopped. SHU is 9-6-4 overall and takes on Ohio Valley on Saturday. SHU can earn the number 4 seed in the WVIAC playoffs with a win over OVU and a Charleston win over WV Wesleyan on Thursday. If the Griffins earn the #4 seed they will host a first round WVIAC game on Tuesday.
