Griffins Defeated by Fairmont 34-13

The Griffin football team lost to Fairmont State 34-13 on Saturday. With the loss, SHU drops to 1-8 overall (0-7 in WVIAC). The Falcons used a balance attack to control the tempo and the clock to secure a win against the Griffins Saturday at Offutt Field.

Seton Hill got on the scoreboard first with a 26 yard Steve Padilla field goal. The field goal capped off a 6 play, 57 yard drive that lasted a little over three minutes. In its next drive, Seton Hill marched the ball 32 yards on 8 plays and ended with the same result: three more points off of a Steve Padilla 46 yard field goal. The Griffins had a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Unfortunately, the next three quarters were dominated by Fairmont.

Fairmont scored 34 unanswered points off of 5 touchdowns. They scored two in the second quarter and took a 13-7 lead into the half. Then, Fairmont scored two more in the third quarter. Early in the fourth quarter, Fairmont finished off their scoring for the day with a 12 yard touchdown run. WIth the score 34-7, Seton Hill took their next drive the distance when Tyler Roby was on the receiving end of a Nick Monteleone 5 yard touchdown pass. The drive was 5 plays, 76 yards and the drive lasted a little over two minutes. However, the clock ran out on SHU and Fairmont was able to come into Offutt Field and get their 3rd win of the season.

Daniel Butler led the way on the ground with 39 yards on only 4 carries. DJ Lenehan, who went out of the game in the 1st quarter with a hurt knee, finished 4-4 for 98 yards. Nick Monteleone, who came in for Lenehan, finished 11-19 for 66 yards and 1 touchdown. Sammy Tranks hauled in 5 catches for 27 yards, while Tyler Roby had 2 catches for 59 yards and 1 touchdown. Defensively, Dairrick Alexander led the way with 9 tackles. Jeremy Haskins, Steve Trent, and Nick McGahagan all recorded 8 tackles for SHU.

Next Saturday, the Griffins travel to West Liberty to take on the Hilltoppers. The game is scheduled to start at 1 PM.
