Trettel was one of 18 players to receive the award from the Atlantic region which consists of schools from the WVIAC, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. During the season Trettel did not commit an error in 182 chances this season. Trettel also threw out nine of 31 base stealers during the season. Along with his stellar defensive play Trettel also hit a team high .343 with 15 homeruns and 47 RBI while helping the Griffins to a 30-17 record.
