Griffins fall to Glenville in WVIAC First Round Playoff Game

The Griffins men's basketball team's season ended with a 77-65 loss on the road at Glenville in WVIAC First Round Playoff action. The turning point in the game was a 17-0 run over the final 7 minutes of the first half in which a 21-21 tie turned into a 38-21 halftime lead for Glenville.
Seton Hill trailed for the entire first half until the 6:56 mark when guard Alex Tomic knocked down a jumper to tie the game at 21. The jumper capped off a 7-0 Griffin run where Tomic would score five of those points.
Glenville State responded by going on a 17-0 run to end the half and pull away from the Griffins and take the 38-21 advantage into the half. The run was aided by five of the Griffins six turnover for the half while Chase Groves and Anthony Kimble led the charge in the final seven minutes of the half with eight and seven points respectively.
Glenville shot 50% from the field in the first half and was led by Anthony Kimble with 12 points on 4 of 8 shooting while Groves chipped in 10 points and dished out four assists.
Jordan Thomas and Cody Boone each scored 18 points for the Griffins. Alex Tomic added 13 points. The Griffins finish the season at 10-18. Seton Hill was only able to manage 10 field goals in the half and shot 40% led by Alex Tomic who went 3 of 5 from the field for seven points.
Glenville was able to stretch their lead to 23 on back to back 3-pointers by Jamal Holden and Tryvan Leech before Cody Boone ended the Griffins eight minute scoring drought with a layup at the 18:46 mark.
Glenville’s biggest lead of the contest would come two minutes later when a Chase Groves lay-up made it a 27 point contest at 50-23. The Griffins were able to battle back, over the next fifteen minutes the Griffins would outscore the Pioneers by 19 and cut the lead to 71-63 with 1:32 left but it was too little, too late for the Griffins.
Anthony Kimble led the way for the Pioneers with 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting while grabbing 7 rebounds. Jamal Holden (16), Chase Groves (14) and Tryvan Leech (13) also scored in double figures for Glenville State. Glenville State also made 11 3-pointers on the night with Holden and Leech each hitting three each.
The Griffins were led by Jordan Thomas and Cody Boone who each scored 18 points in the losing effort. Thomas also grabbed a team high seven rebounds and dished out 2 assists in his final game as a Griffin. Alex Tomic was the only other Griffin who reached double figures. Tomic shot 5 of 8 from the field and scored 15 points.
Seton Hill finished the season with a 10-18 record. Glenville State advances to the quarterfinals of the WVIAC Tournament to play #4 Pitt-Johnstown.
